Slaten joined the Rarebird Real Estate team with over 5 years of real estate investing experience, and more than 15 years experience in property rehabilitation due to natural disasters. Slaten helped communities along the Gulf Coast after the hurricanes of the mid-2000s, then in post-Katrina New Orleans, and in Haiti after the earthquake of 2010. Since 2011, Slaten has used his skills to invest in real estate, starting with fixing and flipping houses (you can see his handy work here), and more recently expanding to multi-family and small commercial investing.
Slaten graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 1999, and has also worked in finance in NYC, a dot com in SF, and briefly taught English in the Canary Islands. You can often find him running the trails of Forest Park, cycling the West Hills, playing ice hockey, and teaching his kids how to ski.
